New Coronavirus Variant Found in France

SARS-CoV-2 virus has emerged as one of the most terrifying virus dominating whole world. Despite having variants - Beta, Gamma, Delta and Omicron - SARS-CoV-2 have evolve into a new variant which is currently reported in France.

Variant B.1.640.2 also known as 'IHU' was recently noticed by university of IHU Mediterranean Infection. Variant B.1.640.2 - IHU - have infected 12 patients who have recently been to Africa.

But researchers says, It is too early to determine is it a new variant, How it behaves and to detect its efficiency against vaccines. According to reports, IHU have reported 46 Mutations and 37 delegations and 30 amino acid substitutes.
Amino Acids are molecules that are combined to form proteins. Proteins and Amino acids are both crucial elements of Life.

Variants including Omicron has underwent mutations of Spike Proteins, for Which IHU is not an exception. IHU saw mutation in spike proteins including N501Y and E484K - Amino Acids substitutes.
It is the spike proteins that helps virus to enter into body and infect cells. Almost all vaccines target spike proteins of SARS-CoV-2.

Mutations of N501Y and E484K have also been noticed in all recent variants.

IHU or B.1.604.2 have still not been noticed in other countries except for France, According to investigations of World Health Organization (WHO).
Researchers added, The very first case was diagnosed positive by RTPCR test in last year November. After the discovery of a new variant, A author tweeted 'New variants keep on emerging, It does not mean they all are more powerful. The ability of fast regeneration makes variant more dangerous not mutations.'

Since it is not found in any other country, But Omicron cases graph have seen up-surge. Omicron have spread in more than 100 countries. Omicron first was noticed in Africa and Botswana.

"The mutation set and phylogenetic position of the genomes obtained here indicate based on our previous definition a new variant we named IHU. These data are another example of the unpredictability of the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants, and of their introduction in a given geographical area from abroad.” the authors of the study said.
